ARE YOU GETTING GHOSTED?

We live in a very busy world. If you’re getting ghosted, most importantly, don’t take it personally. Always be prepared to pursue the next opportunity can continue the process.

If you’re being ghosted, often it may have nothing to do with you or your interview, but could simply be changes inside the company. People go on vacation, change roles, are extremely busy, or when a new candidate is hired, a company many not follow up to let you know. Even when we expect that the professional thing to do is reply, not all companies have the resources to get back to every candidate.

If you have inside information that the organization has not filled the position and is still looking, there are ways for you to follow up more effectively. It is always best practice to send a brief thank you email to the recruiter, but if you have not heard back, consider sending a hand written note or even making a phone call. Remember, be brief, show interest and be clear with your communication. Ask if the position has been filled and if not, is there anything you can do to pursue and additional opportunity.

If you get a ‘no’ or can’t get a clear answer, be positive and thank them for their time, then pursue your next opportunity. Never burn a bridge. It’s a small HR world.

Always reflect on what you can do better by customizing your resume for each individual opportunity and preparing using best practices for each and every interview by gaining as much information as you can about both the company and the personal you’ll be meeting with.

Even the best can get ghosted. Do your part, don’t ghost others and if you get ghosted, move on. The market is filled with opportunity.
