Taking Care of THose Who Care for Others

Nurse caring for elderly person

My mother is currently in an Assisted Living Facility for Memory Care.  She is fortunate to have a few very kind nurses to care for her throughout the day. It is a very difficult job to take care of the residents who are in varying degrees of declining mental and physical health. Whatever they are paid is not enough to compensate them for the stressful and exhausting work that they do.

One of the nurses in particular stands out. She comforts the residents when they are sad and always tries to make them smile. I gave her the $20 and told her I appreciate her being there for my mom when I cannot and that I feel better when she is on duty, knowing my mother will be well cared for. She was very grateful and thanked me for many days after. It made me happy to help her in some small way, especially when she does so much to help others - everyday.
